Before this trip to Oman was a mystery to me. I had heard of Muscat’s beautiful mosques and the dramatic landscapes of the Empty Quarter, but what I found exceeded every expectation. It’s safe, clean, culturally rich, and boasts a breathtaking mix of sea, mountains, and desert.

🕌 Muscat: Culture and Calm by the Sea

Muscat is one of the most relaxed capital cities I’ve ever visited. We started with the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a marvel of architecture. The Royal Opera House and the Mutrah Souq were must-visits too—especially for spices, silver, and frankincense.

Tip: Women must cover their arms, legs, and hair when entering the mosque.

🏔️ Nizwa & Jebel Akhdar: Mountains and Markets

Nizwa is famous for its fort and Friday livestock market, a scene of proud farmers and bidding locals. Then we climbed to Jebel Akhdar, known as the Green Mountain, where terraced gardens and cool air offer a stark contrast to the desert below.

Highlight: Trying fresh Omani halwa and dates with qahwa (cardamom coffee).

🏜️ Wahiba Sands: A Night in the Desert

Driving into the Wahiba Sands feels like entering a painting. We stayed in a Bedouin-style desert camp—camel rides at sunset, traditional Omani dinner under the stars, and absolute silence at night.

💦 Wadi Bani Khalid & Sur: Nature and Nostalgia

Wadi Bani Khalid was an oasis dream—natural pools of turquoise water surrounded by palm trees and cliffs. After a refreshing swim, we headed to Sur, a coastal town known for traditional dhow building.

🐢 Ras al Jinz: Turtle Watching by Moonlight

This reserve is one of the few places where you can see endangered green turtles laying eggs in the wild. It’s a magical, respectful experience guided by conservationists.
